“Escape, escape” she whispered as she ran her nails along her thighs, leaving long, red marks all the way across them. That was all she wanted. All she longed for. She wanted to escape it all. Everything. All the pain she’d been through. Everything here reminded her of her past. She wanted to escape it all. “Escape” she whispered again, as if saying the word would make it come true. As if that one word was some sort of witches spell, one of those she had always read about in books. She had always dreamed of having magic powers, and now would be the time to use them. But she didn’t. She never had magic powers, and of course she never would. Tears fell from her eyes, all the way down onto the long red marks on her thighs. She would never be able to escape her past.
